I was employed to bring “Shellbee” to life with touch, sound, vibration and light. Shellbee was created by the Seashell Trust for “Bee in the City”, a large scale public art project held across Manchester. Collaborating with a team of school staff, musicians, sound designers and “Wild in Art”, we created an interactive, vibrant and surprising experience.
I was responsible for the design & manufacture of the technical system, including proximity sensing, touch sensing, sound/vibration playback, and illuminated eye-parts. The system was built with off-the-shelf components, including D-class amps, tactile transducers, a particularly powerful soundboard (wav tsunami) and a Teensy microcontroller.
Shellbee attained the accolade of “Most popular” during the display of the public art trail.
